Strings Attached:From Nat King Cole To Philly Soul…
From Johnny Mathis to Luther Vandross “Strings Attached” is an audio excursion that explores the beautiful orchestration that backed moving vocal performances by black balladeers in classic songs over the last half century. This thoughtful commentary includes wonderful observations from guest “voices” including John “Skip” Anderson who worked as pianist, songwriter and arranger for Luther Vandross for more than 20 years; Terri Pontremoli, former Detroit Jazz Festival artistic director who is also a classically trained violinist who played for the Cleveland Opera before going on to perform in string sections for Isaac Hayes, Smokey Robinson and The O’Jays; lead vocalist Russell Thompkins, Jr. of The Stylistics; and legendary Motown audio engineer Dr. Ed Wolfrum, who recorded both Hot, Buttered Soul for Isaac Hayes and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”.
